About this event

Margaret Merritt will speak about her book, "Roshier H. Creecy: A Black Man's Search for Freedom and Prosperity in the Koyukuk Gold Fields of Alaska."

Margaret F. Merritt is a scientist, author, public speaker, and outdoorswoman who has lived in Alaska since 1977. She attended the University of California, Utah State University, and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Alaska. After decades of writing and publishing in scientific literature, she has recently focused her research and writing on historical biographies. "I like to bring forward stories of adventurous people who show remarkable characteristics that inspire us. I write to entertain, educate, and encourage reflection on past issues that remain relevant today."

Her book, "Roshier H. Creecy: A Black Man's Search for Freedom and Prosperity in the Koyukuk Gold Fields of Alaska" has received praise from historians and outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy true adventure stories.

Her books are available locally at the following places (one stop shopping!): UAF Museum of the North gift shop, the Alaska Mining Museum and Foundation at 409 Cushman, Alaska Rare Coins on 2nd Avenue, and the Bear Gallery and gift shop in Pioneer Park (they may be low on inventory so you should call first). Online, both books can be ordered from Amazon, Barns and Noble, etc.

This event will be on Zoom. An e-mail invite and Zoom link will go out to members before the event! Hope to see you there.
